RED CARPET

Sarah Jessica Parker Wears a Shrub for a Hat

- The American actress turns heads with her strange choice in head gear at a movie premiere in London

By: Monica Gaza, Life & Style Editor

Sarah Jessica Parker is well known for her rather more eccentric tastes in fashion and for her talent of occasionally pushing the boundaries of fashion and art into a rather risqué territory. Never one to fear making a bold statement with her outfits, Parker has turned herself into a veritable self-styled fashionista and has wowed and raised eyebrows alike over the years with her choice of garments and accessories. Last night's premiere of "Sex and the City", which took place in London, was no exception.
The four leading female stars hit the red carpet in London in cleverly tailored designer gowns, but once again it was Parker who stood out – for a slightly odd reason: on top of her blond curls, the actress sported a green Philip Treacy hat that looked more like a shrub or a wedding centerpiece than anything else.

Parker wore a prom-like pistachio Alexander McQueen dress and matching pumps, but it was her hat that took center stage. Some would say they expected no less from the quirky actress whose character Carrie Bradshaw has often pioneered bold, new, slightly over-the-top styles. We could therefore say that she stayed in character for the Leicester Square red carpet session that preceded the world premiere of the hotly anticipated £30million SATC movie, which comes to continue the adventures of the four stiletto-loving New Yorkers four years after the cult TV show ended production in February 2004.

The hat in question – complete with fake flowers and clinging green butterflies – is the work of Philip Treacy, an Irish designer known for his "surreal and sculptural" creations, and some of us may argue that although interesting enough and in keeping with Parker's gown and shoes, it screams for attention and gets it for the wrong reasons. It spells stylish haute-couture just a tad outrageous – but in a rather tense manner. And with her firmly established fashionista reputation and the support of hundreds of thousands of fans all over the world a certainty, Sarah Jessica Parker would have gotten just as much attention without the wacky headpiece.

I think it does not look too bad on her because her dress and her hair are quite nice... Seen much worse... :)
