AMD's next-generation Radeon graphics cards, the much-anticipated DirectX 11-enabled Radeon HD 5xxx series, will reportedly be launched on September 23, providing users with a new level of performance, compared to the chip maker's current line of Radeon HD 4xxx-series. On that note, it appears that a couple of graphics card makers, including XFX and Sapphire, will be ready to roll out their first HD 58xx-series cards as soon as AMD gives the official word.

As we are getting closer to the official debut of the new cards, rumors and details on the new GPUs invade the Internet. Such is the case with two new cards from XFX and Sapphire, two of AMD's partners for the ATI Radeon graphics segment. The cards from both Sapphire and XFX are based on AMD's reference design, but are featured with a custom sticker representing the brand logos of each company.

Initially surfaced on hermitage akihabara, Sapphire's new card lineup includes both the Radeon HD 5870 and 5850 models, which have both been designed with a dual-slot cooling solution. The two are built on a black PCB and boast the 40nm RV870 graphics processing unit, 256-bit memory interface, dual-DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort connectivity. As far as technical specifications go, the H 5870 will deliver 1600 Stream processors, with the GPU and memory clocks set to run at 850MHz and 4800MHz, respectively. Slightly below the new Radeon flagship is the Radeon HD 5850, which has been featured with 1440 Stream processors, a GPU running at 750MHz and 1GB of GDDR5 memory, clocked at 4000MHz.

Pictures and tech specifications of the XFX variant for the new Radeon HD 5870 have surfaced on videokonsolu. As the corresponding card from Sapphire, the XFX model comes with the same technical specifications, but a different branding sticker. The card will also boast the same array of connectivity interfaces and will be available in 1GB and 2GB variants.
