Sapphire is one of AMD's best board partners and this is probably the reason for which any graphics card released by this manufacturer is received with great interest. This time around, we're talking about a graphics card that is based on AMD's current Radeon HD 4850, a GPU meant for the mid-range users. With all that, Sapphire's offer might just attract even some high-end users, especially those who are looking for
an alternative to their CrossFire-enabled gaming systems.
The company's new HD 4850 graphics card will provide users with no less than 1GB of GDDR3 memory. Even though the card hasn't yet been displayed on the company's website, there are already some pictures of it making the rounds on the web. The new card looks pretty much like the last one built by Sapphire, although no major changes in its overall design can be noticed. It is just that Sapphire has changed the color of the PCB, as well as of the cover plate on the one-slot cooling system. The cooling system actually is different to the reference cooler but the design is still pretty much similar to the standard card.
As we already said, the new card isn't really that much different from any other HD 4850-based one. Besides the 1GB of GDDR3 memory and the differently colored PCB, the card comes with pretty much the same technical specifications. This means that the core and memory speeds have been left untouched, offering a maximum of 625MHz and 993MH, respectively.
According to these specifications, this card isn't the Sapphire HD 4850 Toxic, about which we have heard so much recently. For one, there is the specs and also the fact that the Toxic card is expected to come with 1GB of GDDR3 memory, not to mention have some impressive core speeds, factory overclocked by Sapphire. The Toxic is also rumored to come with a custom cooling system, but there are no details to confirm what this will be.
At this point, Sapphire hasn't listed any other HD 4850 model on its web page, other than the one that comes with AMD's standard PCB and cooling design.
