Sanyo Electric Co. has joined the group of companies that back up the Blu-Ray format, but it will also remain loyal to Toshiba which is a strong supporter of HD-DVD.

Sanyo's decision to support both
Sony that supports Blu-Ray, as well as Toshiba which developed the HD-DVD standard comes only to cause even more confusion regarding the assigning of the winner of this epic dispute.

Sanyo has secretly joined the Blu-Ray group since April, while in the same time maintained a tight relation with the HD-DVD side, announces the Kyodo news agency, citing company representatives. Moreover, it seems that Sanyo will offer a HD-DVD compatible device somewhere this year.

The last events regarding the next generation of DVDs point out that will have two different formats, both Sony and Toshiba being decided to support their own standard.
