Beside the ultra-portable, short-throw projector we've talked about yesterday, Sanyo has also revealed another interesting display solution of this type, namely the PLC-WL2503 model, whose main selling point is the fact that it allows users to actually interact with the content being projected.

The interactive system consists of two interface devices (a pen and a pointer), each containing an infrared (IR) transmitter that generates a signal detected by a camera module located on the front surface of the projector each time the tip of either device is pressed against the screen or wall surface.

The purpose of this signal is to determine the relative position of the pen's tip on the image, that is then transmitted back the PC connected to the projector.

Beside this interactive system, the projector from Sanyo also packs some other interesting features, including here the supported Wide XGA format that provides a 16:10 aspect ratio with 1280x800 resolution, an ultra-short throw lens creates images from 60 to 110 inches at a distance of no more than 47 inches from the screen, as well as 2500 lumens brightness and a 500:1 contrast ratio.

“Our new interactive projector opens a vast new range of applications for both the educational and business markets. It enables PC interactivity in essentially any environment and at a much lower cost than existing systems by eliminating the need for an interactive whiteboard” stated Sam Malik, Vice President and General Manager of the Presentation Technologies Group in SANYO North America’s Consumer Solutions Division.

“The PLC-WL2503 will provide full functionality in any classroom or meeting room, with or without an interactive screen. Further, our short-throw technology adds presentation flexibility by enabling portability and a wide range of image sizes, in contrast to the fixed location and size of a whiteboard,” Mr. Malik added.

Pricing for Sanyo's brand-new PLC-WL2503 interactive projector has been set at around $1695.99, and those of you who're interested in getting one should know that it's going to arrive in store over the course of January 2011.
