Since the Intel Sandy Bridge series of CPUs is one with more than one overclocking-optimized member, it stands to reason that overclockers would let loose with them, and it looks like Futuremark decided to host a competition.

Those that are unfamiliar with the name Futuremark likely don't spend much time testing the performance of their system with benchmarking suites.

The company (Futuremark Corporation) is the one behind the 3DMark Vantage and 3DMark 11 programs, among others.

It is these two benchmarks that will provide the scores of all participants to the overclocking competition that is taking place this month (April 1- April 30).

Foxconn is the company that will sponsor the motherboards for the contest itself.

"We're always committed to providing reliable, high-performance products to our customers,” said Dennis Lin, GM of Foxconn motherboard dept.

“What we want enthusiasts to know is Foxconn’s commitment to strive for cutting edge design like our Quantum Force motherboard series. No matter what board you use for this party, have fun!!"

There are three ways to win a prize. For one, awards are given each week to the best 3DMark Vantage Score (using the Performance preset) on a Sandy Bridge with integrated graphics.

The second award type is based on the performance preset in 3DMark 11 when the Sandy Bridge CPU is paired with any other graphics solution (AMD or NVIDIA cards).

Finally, one weekly winner will be randomly chosen for an extra prize.

“We are excited to sponsor Futuremark’s Sandy Bridge overclocking competition, and will provide Dragon Rider, the latest enthusiast In Win chassis for serious gamers and overclockers, as top prizes,” said Joseph Wang, marketing manager of In Win Development Inc.

“Together with the outstanding Commander PSU and Intel 2nd generation Sandy Bridge processor, gamers can enjoy the ultimate gaming experience.” [UPDATE]: For those so inclined, the 3DMark Vantage and 3DMark 11 downloads are only a click away.
