14 DAY TRIAL // Many tears were shed when Sandra Oh's character, Dr. Cristina Yang made her exit from the ABC hospital drama “Grey's Anatomy,” but as always, there's a silver lining to every storm crowd.
As fans are still struggling to come to terms with the shocking developments of the tenth season finale, Sandra Oh has spoken to The Hollywood Reporter and has said that, after a talk with the series' creator, Shonda Rhimes, she is open for a potential comeback for the series finale.
“We talked about that when I told her I was going to leave but we haven't talked about it again,” Oh says, although ABC hasn't brought up the issue of ending “Grey's Anatomy” yet. “There are certain things that Shonda and I talk about once and then we leave it because we want things to happen without pressure,” she adds.
Proving her devotion to the series that has taken 10 years of her life, Sandra confesses, “I told her, ‘If you guys want to finish it out however you want to finish it out, I'd be more than happy to come back. And if it doesn't fit in that way, I totally understand. I just want you to know that I'm available.’ Who knows! I might be doing something fabulous and it might not work out but I did say, ‘Yes, of course I would.’”
Oh's departure from the show is said to be due to exhaustion, a fact reinforced by the actress herself when she said, “I cannot express to you the profundity of this exhaustion, but what I feel now, being able to zoom out and have a bit more space, was in the state of exhaustion, I feel like I was more reactive than I wish I would have been.”
The actress had made up her mind to leave the series at the beginning of the current season, and it was up to the producers and writers to find a way to take her out of the show. Thankfully, they chose not to kill her off, which leaves an open door for her return.
“Grey's Anatomy” is going to pick up where it left off at the end of the tenth season this fall, once season number eleven begins. Fans will have until then to come to terms that Cristina Yang will no longer be part of the team of doctors at the Seattle Grace Hospital.
