The print issue of People magazine, the one carrying a 10-page piece on Sandra Bullock, including a gorgeous pictorial of her and her newly adopted son Louis, is out. In the interview, already described as among the most heartwarming and honest interviews a star has ever given, the Oscar-winning actress talks adoption, how she met and welcomed her son into her family, and life after the cheating scandal (story via here).

The idea of adopting did not come as an “aha” moment for Sandra, she begins by saying. She started talking to her then husband, Jesse James, about it, and realized that they could do a lot for a child by simply taking him or her into their home, by adoption. Three months ago, she got to see her dream come true and to hold baby Louis in her arms (named after Louis Armstrong). By that time, though, it was already too late for her marriage, as Michelle McGee had already gone to the tabloids to speak of her affair with the biker.

Sandra reveals she’s already filed for divorce and that she’s “scared” about the idea of moving on with her life without Jesse. However, she is determined to not let whatever it is that he did wrong erase the fond memories she has of him – or make her forget that she would have little of what she has now if she hadn’t met him. She also says she hopes Jesse will be a part of Louis’ life even if they don’t have a future together, just like she hopes she will be involved in his kids’ life as well.

“To say that I am changed is an understatement. But that might not be a bad thing. I have learned a lot about what I am and what I am not. But the most important thing to me was to protect and know my truth. And the truth is simple. The things I hold most dear are things that could not have happened without Jesse,” Sandra says. Her first reaction to the story of Jesse cheating was to pack “enough clothes to live on” and get out of town with her son before the paparazzi got wind of her whereabouts, she says. None of it would have been possible without her friends and family, and her life would have definitely been much harder what with the relentless media coverage of the scandal.

“Maybe I needed this rug yanked out from under me so publicly so that I had no choice but to look at what I needed to look at, both inside and out. And maybe [her late mother] Helga had some hand in this. She knows how stubborn I am. Maybe I needed this to happen so that I could be the very best mother to Louis. We wouldn’t know the sweet moments in life unless we had the pain. And painfully, I’m going to miss so much,” Sandra also says.
