Ever since the awards season kicked off, Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep have been playing rivalry games, with all kinds of strange statements released to the media. Now that the two are going neck and neck for this year’s Academy Awards in the Best Actress category, the games have just begun, as Sandra herself says in a recent interview cited by Us Magazine.

At the end of the day, it was Bullock herself who started all this, she explains. She is, as we were also telling you the other day, in the running for her performance in the surprisingly successful “The Blind Side.” For a while, it was kind of like a game, the actress adds, with each throwing around big words, but now that an Oscar statuette is at stake, she’s dead serious and has already sent Streep a heads-up that she’d better watch her back.

“With Meryl, when this whole thing started, I left her a voice mail going, ‘You’ve got to watch your back. I’m gonna cut you. I’m gonna take you down. And then she sent me dead orchids and told me to die, so I sent her a case of liquor and told her to toast to white trash,” Sandra Bullock jokes. She then switches on a more serious tone and says that only to have been nominated and to be able to have her name next to those of such talented actress is an honor.

She is referring, of course, to Helen Mirren (“The Last Station”), Carey Mulligan (“An Education”), Gabourey Sibide (“Precious”) and Meryl Streep (“Julie and Julia”). However, the Academy Awards is not the only event in the movie industry that has Bullock as the strongest contender, as she’s also nominated for worst actress at this year’s Razzie Awards, for her part in “All About Steve.” Should she win an Oscar and a Razzie, Sandra would become the first actress to do so in the same year.

Should she win, Sandra would also attend. “If I win, I am so showing up. I have to enjoy that as much as getting an Oscar nomination. It is the great balance in our business,” she says in another recent interview cited by the same publication.
