Sandisk has introduced at CES its first widescreen portable media player. The Product Is Called "Sansa View" and features a 4"widescreen display on which you can play videos, and display photos (up to 16 megapixels!). The video capabilities come as an extra to the already usual music playback and - from what I've heard - the player can combine listening with viewing pictures.

The gorgeous player comes equipped with an integrated speaker needed when you want to watch your videos without having to use headphones. Sansa View measures 78.5mm x 123mm x 16.9mm (0.66" thick) and has 8GB of flash memory. If that is still too small, you can always add more because the player hosts a SD memory expansion slot. The player can output the video to a TV screen through a 30-pin connector (up to 1080i with docking station if your TV can cope with the resolution) for video. The audio output comes in the classical3.5mm headphone jack.

"SanDisk is excited to unveil its first portable media device with remarkably rich video capabilities. The Sansa View is a sturdy, easy-to-use media player perfect for the road warrior or family looking for a video player that they all can enjoy," said Le Tran, SanDisk retail product marketing manager for the Sansa View.

The Sansa View can use Windows Media Player 10 or 11 for syncing of content and can connect to any music subscription service (such as Rhapsody, MTV Urge, and Yahoo! Music). The player is fueled by a removable Li-Polymer battery that provides up to four hours of video playback and about 10 hours of audio playback. The 8GB Sansa View player costs $299 and will probably come to the U.S. in the spring of 2007.
