With netbooks becoming a mainstream choice for most computer enthusiasts, leading hardware providers are presenting their latest solutions for the netbook market. On that note, SanDisk has just announced that it has begun shipping its next-generation flash memory-based Solid State Drives (SSDs) for the netbook computer segment. According to the company, these new solutions have been designed to take advantage of one of the company's latest technologies, dubbed nCache, which is said to deliver
increased performance for netbook storage. Due to be showcased at Computex, the new pSSDs from SanDisk will provide netbook enthusiasts with a worth-considering alternative for their ultraportable systems.

“Full-featured operating systems make tremendous demands in the storage device – writing large amounts of data in fast bursts using small random transfer sizes,” said Doreet Oren, director of product marketing, SanDisk. “SanDisk pSSD drives with nCache offer up to 50 times the random write performance of our first generation SSDs, delivering on the SSD promise for netbooks.”

According to SanDisk, these new pSSDs will be available in capacities of 8, 16, 32 and 64GB and will boast the company's exclusive nCache technology, which can prevent the appearance of “stalling” or “shuddering” effects seen in the first generation of SSDs. Both the pSSD P2 and pSSD S2 drives can provide up to 9000 vRPM of steady performance, considerably increasing the overall system responsiveness of the netbook PC.

With the introduction of the new SSD options, SanDisk also announced that it would showcase these new solutions at its Computex booth. Available in capacities of 8, 16 and 64GB, these new Solid State Drives are already available for those looking to upgrade the storage performance of their netbook systems, as well as for those in search for an SSD alternative for POS terminals, printers, ATMs and other applications. Unfortunately, SanDisk hasn't unveiled any specific details regarding the pricing of its new SSDs.
