Storage solutions meant to withstand time crop up from time to time, and it looks like SanDisk is the latest to offer something of the sort, in the shape of the Memory Vault flash drive.

When it comes to storing data, there are many means of doing it, each one with a different degree of reliability and affordability.

Consumer products meant for such things are available in a great variety of sizes, shapes, colors and performance parameters.

What most of them have in common, however, is the fact that they aren't guaranteed to last for too many years.

Even if they do, data left too long to linger without update or change can become corrupted.

With how most things nowadays are digitized, this can make it troublesome to preserve memories, like photos, videos and the like.

SanDisk decided to create an item that can withstand time better than most of its type, namely the Memory Vault, which is constructed out of solid state components and equipped with the Chronoclock technology.

It connects to PCs via the USB (universal serial bus) interface and should be able to preserve files for up to 100 years.

"SanDisk already offers great image-capture products, and we've built upon that expertise to create a new category of image-preservation products," said Tim Sutton, senior product marketing manager, SanDisk.

"The Memory Vault allows parents to preserve photos of their daughter's first steps alongside videos from her wedding and then pass those images down for generations to come."

SanDisk's Memory Vault comes in a metallic, rugged design hat should fit into any drawer or look pleasant on any desktop. It should withstand changing temperatures and overall any 'accidents' that might be too physically strenuous for other devices.

As for the storage space, it can be of 8 GB or 16 GB, for prices of $49.99 and $89.99.
