The McAfee Scan Engine

As you probably know quite well already, the security of one's personal data is a critical issue nowadays, especially if we're talking about very sensitive information, whose loss, theft or corruption could have very bad consequences for both the user and his/her employer. And since most data-theft threats come from the online environment, SanDisk and McAfee have partnered to provide the new SanDisk Cruzer Enterprise USB flash drive, a portable storage solution that, besides the usual password-protection system, also comes pre-loaded with the McAfee Scan Engine, which offers advanced heuristic analysis and detection of a wide range of threats.

Thus, the new Cruzer Enterprise with McAfee security will be able to protect users from infection with an automatic anti-malware scan that prohibits file transfers to the secure USB drive when it detects infection on a host PC (typically, home computers, which are less protected than corporate ones). The scan engine checks each particular file copied to the flash drive and immediately informs the user whether any of the files are infected. In this way, the risk of an infection for internal enterprise hosts is significantly reduced.

Actually, Christopher Bolin, executive vice president and chief technology officer, McAfee, explains in quite a comprehensive manner the reasons behind this collaboration: "With today’s increasingly mobile work force and the speedy proliferation of new threats, it’s just as vital for organizations to protect their portable devices from malware as it is to secure their perimeter. The McAfee Scan Engine has been battle-tested over many years and is the foundation of McAfee’s anti-malware solutions. SanDisk Enterprise Cruzer customers can rest assured that they have reliable and accurate detection from malicious code."

As mentioned earlier, besides being pre-loaded with anti-malware software, the SanDisk Cruzer Enterprise also keeps the user's data safe at all times, since it sports advanced, hardware-based 256-bit AES encryption. Additionally, the SanDisk Cruzer Enterprise can also take advantage of the SanDisk CMC server software, which provides lifecycle management for Cruzer Enterprise drives, including password recovery and renewal through the network, remote termination of lost drives, central back-up and restore, and central usage tracking.

There's no info yet on whether the price of the Cruzer Enterprise will be affected by this move, especially since it's already a pretty steep one (up to 200 US dollars, depending on capacity and vendor).
