San Antonio stayed atop the Western Conference with a 104-95 victory over the Seattle Supersonics. Tony Parker led the Spurs, pouring 27 points and 9 assists, as the Texans reached 60 wins per season for the third time in franchise history. With this victory, San Antonio opened a one-game lead over the Dallas Mavericks in both Southwest Division and in the Western Conference,
giving them the inside track for No.1 seed in the upcoming playoffs.
"We played a pretty good first half and a very good second half. The intensity was great. Brent Barry and Michael Finley filled in for Manu very, very well. It was a good night."
Coming after 4 wins in a row, Seattle didn't come closer than 5 points to their opponents. With no chance whatsoever to reach the playoffs, Sonics caused no problems for Spurs defense, Ray Allen, the team top scorer, being held to 14 points.
"I thought we didn't create rhythm offensively. And we played really tough defense on the strong side all night long, but you can't beat this team playing that way. Just playing strong defense on that side."
San Antonio will stay home for the next round, playing the Orlando Magic, while Seattle will be heading for New Orleans, playing the Hornets.
