We’ve known all along that “San Andreas,” the latest movie from director Brad Peyton, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as lead, would be a disaster movie, but chances are few could guess the scale it would play out on. The first official trailer offers an indication of that.

“San Andreas” isn’t just a disaster movie, it’s the disaster movie to end all disaster movies. The first trailer, available for your viewing pleasure in full and in HD below, aims to go light on the destruction, but there’s no denying that few will be left standing by the end of it.

The Rock will probably be one of them.

The film tells the story of a search and rescue helicopter pilot who tries to save his daughter after a massive earthquake hits California and brings every standing building crumbling down, after the San Andreas Fault finally gives.

As if that weren’t bad enough, he also has an estranged wife (played by the always exquisite Carla Gugino) in San Francisco, and he must make sure she’s safe too. Basically, this film is about The Rock going up against the biggest earthquake CGI could ever create.

Also starring in the film are Alexandra Daddario, Ioan Graffudd, Archia Panjabi, Hugo Johnstone-Burt, Art Parkinson, and the amazing Paul Giamatti, who gets more screetime in this trailer as the voice of reason whose warnings no one wants to listen to.

As any disaster movie goes, the bigger the disaster, the bigger its chances to be a resounding flop. “San Andreas” looks huge, but we’ll see in the summer of 2015 if treads in the footsteps of its predecessor “2012.”
