If you are a photography enthusiast, you’re probably familiar with Samyang (or Rokinon / Vivitar / Opteka). The company is known for providing excellent lens products for extremely affordable price-tags.

Earlier in 2014, the first rumors saying the company is prepping a new optics to be added to their VDSLR line have emerged online. A lot of people were hoping this meant they were going to see the 50mm cine lens everyone was expecting.

Well, in anticipation of the biggest photographic event of 2014 – Photokina 2014, the company has posted a teaser image on Facebook a few days ago, confirming the speculation: the new optics is indeed coming.

No, the company doesn't plan to reveal the new optics for the first time during the event, but with a few days ahead, on August 26. However, the new lens will certainly be on display in Germany.

A few days later, an image of the upcoming lens plus the specifications have appeared online.

Sadly, we cannot show you the picture because Samyang representatives have requested that the picture be taken down, which is quite odd since the image came from an Asian magazine.

Anyway, the information detailing the upcoming 50 f/1.5 lens is still available to us and it appears the optics have been designed for mirrorless system cameras (as seen as Sony Alpha Rumors).

According to sources familiar with the matter, the new products will have a low price, manual focusing only and come with high optical quality, which is quite characteristic of the company.

The 50 f/1.5 will have a lens construction of 9 elements in 6 groups, an angle of view of 46.2” and T1.5~ 22 aperture.

Furthermore, the optics will bring to the table a minimum focusing distance of 0.45m and a filter size of 77mm. It will weight just 575 g / 0.57 lbs (Canon EOS mount standard) and measure 74.7 x 81.6 mm / 2.9 x 3.2 inches (Canon EOS mount standard).

Last but not least, you’ll probably be interested to know the supported mounts include Nikon F, Canon EOS, Pentax K, Sony A, Cannon M, Fujifilm X, Samsung NX, Sony E, Micro Four Thirds.

The teaser posted by the company on Facebook says “Dreams Come True! On August 26 your dream lens will come” which is a direct indication that the highly hyped cine lens might indeed be upon us in a few days. We’re keeping our fingers crossed and so should you.
