Publisher Tecmo Koei has tweeted what must be very exciting news that many western gamers were eagerly waiting for, the fact that Samurai Warriors 4 is coming to both Europe and North America.

The game is already out in Japan, on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita platforms, since March 20, 2014.

Fans of the series in both Europe and North America will no longer have to cry themselves to sleep, envying those in Japan, who get to experience the joy of hacking and slashing first-hand, in the latest installment of developer Omega Force's legendary series.

The game is very similar to Omega Force's other long-standing series, Dynasty Warriors, featuring a ton of characters to choose from and the established crowd-fighting mechanic where you defeat entire armies single-handed by employing various flashy moves and, of course, a dash of heroic panache.

As opposed to the Dynasty Warriors games, which draw inspiration from the ancient Chinese tale of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, The Samurai Warriors series explores Japanese history, with the events in Samurai Warriors 4 taking place during the Sengoku period, a time of great strife.

The game features a grand total of 55 characters, most of them returning from previous installments in the series, but the story mode no longer uses the traditionally utilized model of having one story arc per character, instead being divided into ten stories, each of them focusing on certain clans and prefectures.

Each stage offers a certain selection of playable characters to use, according to their participation in each battle, which means that some figures on the roster will not show up during Story Mode.

They can, however, be played in the Vagrant Mode, where, along with custom player-made characters, they can take orders from various generals, including custom ones.

In a manner similar to the series' spin-off game Samurai Warriors: Chronicles, players are able to take two characters into battle, having the option to switch between them during fights.

In addition to this, the gameplay has been spruced up with some new moves and duels against enemy officers, along with some changes and improvements to the game's other modes, offering gamers more freedom when enjoying the frantic action.

Samurai Warriors 4 is coming to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in Europe and North America sometime this fall, and it is also launching internationally on the PlayStation 4 at the same time.
