South Korean mobile-phone maker Samsung seems set to unveil to the world the first mobile phone powered by its newly launched bada operating system this Sunday, just ahead of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The company already put in place a teaser web page pointing out at February 14 as the day when “A new mobile from Samsung is born,” and the fact that the ocean forms the background on that page suggests nothing else than that a bada phone is to be unveiled.

As many of you might already know, Samsung announced officially its bada smartphone operating system back in December, and “bada” in Korean means “ocean,” so things add up. Moreover, the handset vendor is expected to bet a lot on the new mobile platform during the ongoing year, and it already announced that the first device to sport the OS would arrive either in late March or in early April, so an MWC unveiling of the handset makes sense.

Moreover, Engadget suggests that what Samsung is set to show to the world at the upcoming event in Barcelona includes a mobile phone that will put together “a new smartphone OS (Bada) and touchscreen technology (Super AMOLED),” and that the aforementioned web page itself suggests this will be the device to emerge on Sunday. And, who knows, maybe the phone will indeed come with a 3.3-inch touchscreen display that boasts a 800 x 480 pixel resolution, just as rumored.

It's a well know fact that Samsung seems determined to prove to the world that its bada operating system is capable of gaining a lot of traction on the market. The handset vendor has already put in place a bada Developer website to boast the building of applications for the platform, and touts the mobile client as being capable of delivering a great deal of appealing features to users too. Since Sunday is only five days ahead, it won't be long before more details on the company's OS and plans for it will emerge, so stay tuned.
