South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is reportedly considering the launch of smartphones powered by MediaTek processor next year.

A recent report from DigiTimes claims that CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets, cited by Chinese-language Commercial Times, said in a recent report that MediaTek would start delivering quad- and eight-core CPUs to Samsung in the second half of 2014.

Already present inside a wide range of devices, MediaTek's mobile chips enable vendors to launch affordable smartphones that can still deliver high levels of performance.

At the moment, Samsung is using either its own processors inside smartphones, or Qualcomm’s high-end chips, which offer a wider range of connectivity capabilities.

Provided that the aforementioned report is accurate, we might see the South Korean vendor launching more affordable smartphones with mid to high-end capabilities next year.
