At IFA 2011 next week, a new series of Samsung mobile phones should become official with Google's Android operating system on board, and it seems that an LTE-capable Galaxy S II smartphone might be among them. Samsung was already known to plan the release of a new handset at the conference, as it already released a series of video teasers to announce the upcoming release, but specific info on what it might actually launch did not emerge until now.

Apparently, the “big” announcement that Samsung plans for the event involves a new Galaxy S II smartphone, one that would feature a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display, compared to the 4.3-inch one on the currently available model.

But this is not all, as more hardware upgrades were reportedly included in the new phone model, such as the dual-core 1.5GHz application processor.

The same as the original Galaxy S II, the new device would sport an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, along with support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The specifications list of Samsung LTE-enabled Galaxy S II smartphone would also include NFC capabilities (Near Field Connectivity), as well as a 1850mAh battery.

The rest of the specifications should be similar to those packed with the original Galaxy S II smartphone, rumor has it.

Given the fact that Samsung's flagship device is already one of the most popular Android-based devices on the market, it was expected for the company to release more versions of it, and an LTE-powered flavor might prove a great option, that's for sure.

Samsung already launched LTE-capable mobile Android smartphones, as well as tablet PCs that offer the connectivity, and is expected to release even more of them in the near future, including an LTE-based Galaxy Tab 8.9.

An LTE-based Galaxy S II, especially one released on shelves at Verizon and/or AT&T in the United States might prove a real competitor against the long-rumored LTE iPhone that might be released in a matter of months.

IFA 2011 is roughly a week away, and Softpedia will be on the floor at the event with live coverage of launches, so keep an eye on this space for more on the matter.
