South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung seems determined to prove its supremacy on the smartphone market with yet another high-end device, which might arrive on shelves sometime in September as the Samsung Galaxy S II Plus.

Just as its name suggests, the next flagship device from the company would be the direct successor of the increasingly popular Galaxy S II, and should sport hardware somehow similar with the already available device.

The main difference between the two would be the inclusion of a 1.4GHz dual-core application processor in the upcoming handset, thus the “Plus” part in its name.

The CPU should be accompanied by 1GB of RAM, as in the Galaxy S II. The upcoming device might run under Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, the latest flavor of Google's mobile operating system.

Rumor has it that Samsung is set to release the new device as a direct competitor for Apple's next iPhone model, which was previously rumored to arrive on shelves in September as well.

The new iPhone would also arrive on the market with increased processing power, as well as with the latest version of Apple's mobile platform.

Samsung has been long struggling to bring to shelves handsets that would take the lead on the smartphone market from Apple's iPhone, and it seems that the company is finally nearing its goal.

Last year, Samsung released the Galaxy S smartphone, which became one of the most popular devices on the market, and which outsold the iPhone in some markets.

The Samsung Galaxy S II, brought to the market in late April, already dethroned the iPhone in some markets, and is gaining more and more ground in more of them.

Reports on third high-end mobile phone from Samsung to be included in the popular series already emerged into the wild (said to be called Galaxy S III), but nothing was as specific as the new rumor, which also suggests that Samsung might drop the Galaxy name for it.
