Samsung have just unveiled their high capacity 2.5-inch hard disk drive in the Spinpoint M6 series. The new line of 2.5-inch hard disk drives offers a storage capacity of 320GB and addresses the notebook
market. The Spinpoint M6 HM320JI uses a SATA interface for notebook, slim PC and blade server connectivity. The hard-drive is the company's response to users' increased need in storage space, either for business or for multiple multimedia applications.

"As 2.5-inch hard drives move further beyond traditional notebook PCs and into more consumer electronics and enterprise applications, we have the storage solutions and higher capacity drives to meet all the needs of businesses and consumers," said Andy Higginbotham, director of hard drive sales and marketing, Samsung Semiconductor. "With its massive 320GB capacity, the Spinpoint M6 can store 91,000 digital images, 100-hours of DVD movies, and 38-hours of HD movies."

The disk is designed to work flawlessly in all environments, including factory and plant production lines. It can work in heavy vibrating environment, thanks to the optional Rotary Vibration Controller that minimizes the influence of external vibration. If dropped off the desktop, the disk is likely to survive, due to the optional Free-Fall Sensor that parks the disk's heads in a safe area to avoid scratches.

The Spinpoint M6 records data using the perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology. The hard-drive's design has been refurbished in order to allow ultra-precision adjustment of the head parking ramp position for high-density recording.

The M6 series of hard disks features a 5,400rpm spindle speed, and come with a 1.5Gbps SATA interface with 8MB cache memory. It can be purchased from the retailers' networks at a price of $249.
