South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has just released the high-end Android-based Galaxy S smartphones on the European market, and it seems that it is getting ready to have it launched on the US market too. The company has sent out invites to a press event held on June 29 in New York, stating that “the next generation in Android smartphones” will be brought to light that day.

The company was expected to bring the Galaxy S to the US market soon, so there are no surprises here, though it still remains to be seen what distribution model it plans on adopting. Rumor has it that T-Mobile would launch the device on its airwaves come July 21, though others previously suggested that all major carriers in the country would have plans for the new phone.

Whether the handset will indeed be released on North American shores shortly is no mystery. Teasers were already sent out stating that the Galaxy S is coming soon to the market, as news sites reported on. However, the exact release date of the phone was not unveiled as of yet, and the July 21 launch day on Magenta remains only in the rumor side for the time being.

Following last year's Android-based Galaxy smartphone, the new Galaxy S brings much more to users. The 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display it sports is only one of its main selling points. It is accompanied by a 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with HD video recording capabilities, 8GB/16GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, HSUPA 900/1900/2100 connectivity options, and the Android 2.1 operating system.

Some of the latest reports pointed out that Samsung managed to score the first position on the mobile subscribers segment in the US, and the availability of Galaxy S on this market should help it consolidate that position. However, we should also mention that the handset should face a tight competition when released on shelves, not only from rivals like the new Apple iPhone, but also from other Android-based phones, including the HTC EVO 4G and others. More info on the Galaxy S can be found on its official website.
