Less than two weeks ago, an unannounced Samsung Galaxy Grand was spotted at FCC (Federal Communications Commission), though there were no details on the phone’s release date.
Today, the folks over at SamMobile claim that one of their trusted sources has confirmed that a certain Galaxy Grand DUOS will be announced by Samsung in January 2013.
According to the cited source, the new smartphone is codenamed GT-I9082 and will be available in two color options: Elegant White and Metallic Blue.
Although the SamMobile wasn’t able to dig up more details on the phone’s specs, the Galaxy Grand DUOS seems to be the same device as the one spotted two weeks ago at FCC, plus dual-SIM capability.
In this regard, the Galaxy Grand DUOS is expected to be equipped with a quad-core Exynos processor clocked at 1.4 GHz and a huge 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display.
The intriguing part is the fact that the latest hearsay claims that the Galaxy Grand DUOS’ display supports only 480 x 800 pixels resolution.
Hopefully, this is just a mistake and Samsung will launch the smartphone with higher res or smaller display, either way is better than having a phone with such a large display with 480 x 800 pixels resolution.
We also know that the Galaxy Grand DUOS will come with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support. The phone will be powered by a high-capacity 2100 mAh battery which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.
Software-wise, the smartphone is currently tested with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean platform onboard, but it might be released with a newer version.
Even though the Galaxy Grand DUOS embeds a quad-core CPU, word is that Samsung aims at the mid-range smartphone market with this device, so we expect it to be priced accordingly. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
