Samsung’s mythical smartphone – the one we weren't exactly sure it would ever see the light of day – the Tizen OS-equipped Z1 just got announced in India.

The rumor mill kept saying Samsung will unveil the device today and the Korean tech giant finally did so. So say hello to the first ever Tizen OS handset to make it out into the wild.

It’s a budget device with a price that will certainly surprise you. But we’ll reveal its exact specifications a little bit later

Samsung Z1 opens up the era of Tizen mobile devices

So, as anticipated, the Z1 arrives with a 4-inch display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution. Under the hood, Sammy has slipped a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU (of unnamed origin) fitted with a curious 768MB of RAM plus 4GB of internal storage (fortunately, it’s expandable up to 64GB).

The handset also dons a 3.1MP / 0.3MP camera duo and a 1500 mAh battery. To sweeten the deal even more, Samsung is willing to award free access to its own media and entertainment hub dubbed Joy Box, which will let users stream and download movies, TV shows and their favorite music.

A few days ago, we showed you WhatsApp running on the Z1 handset so, if you were wondering whether the Tizen handset would be able to run Android apps, the answer is yes.

Thanks to the OpenMobile Application Compatibility Layer, Z1 users will be able to tap into the goodness of Android apps all they want.

The Samsung Z1 is a budget device in the true sense

Now for the shocking part. The Samsung Z1 will go on sale in India starting today with a $90 / €73 price tag. Yes, its specs are very unimpressive, but this might be the lowest we have seen on a Samsung phone so far.

Sammy promises a seamless user experience with the phone, but we’re yet to see if these claims hold grounds or not. Most likely, the phone will turn out to be quite laggy and probably frustrating to use in some scenarios.
