Convertible machines have been stealing the spotlight in 2013, but in in 2014 everyone’s interest will probably turn towards dual-booting machines.

It seems customers everywhere are starting to acquire a taste for versatile machines capable of offering more than one mode of usage. If hybrids are machines that can be used in both tablet and laptop mode, dual-boot tablets should allow users to run either Windows 8, Android or even both.

And the folks over at Crossmap believe that a new dual-boot might be launched by Samsung as soon as Q1 2014. They apparently bet their money on the Ativ Q. The device was the first dual-booting machine ever, as it was showcased by Sammy at a London event in June, but since then nothing was heard about it.

Then in August rumors started circulating saying the machine hit a bumpy road and was facing patent issues related to the dual-OS feature, so the launch of the slate was delayed indefinitely.

But sources inside media outlets, apparently keeping an eye on the mysterious device now claim that the Ativ Q website has been revitalized and is up and running again (so far it was shut down) displaying the clear promise of “COMING SOON 2014.”

Puzzling enough, we couldn’t locate the website online, but the theory is interesting. Remember that it was previously reported that Samsung has been working on a mysterious 13.3-inch tablet. Sammy was rumored to be aiming the professional business market with this larger slate.

Other theories claimed that the 13.3-incher might turn out to be a version of the Galaxy Tab 2014 Edition capable of booting between Android and Windows RT.

Considering that the Ativ Q was also a 13.3-incher, it might mean Samsung has found a work-around for the patent issues surrounding its dual-OS functionality and could be gearing up to unleash the slate?

We have been telling you that the Korean tech giant is expected to launch four new tablet models in 2014 and maybe the Ativ Q will be one of them.
