Samsung has launched a lightweight camera that can be slipped right inside your pocket

As was expected ever since last month, Samsung rolled out the newest member of the NX Smart Camera family, the Samsung NX mini.

As with every product release, the manufacturing company makes bold claims about the device and the newcomer is no exception to the norm, as Sammy says that this is the “world’s slimmest and lightest interchangeable-lens digital camera.”

And since taking selfies is the favorite pastime of anybody with a camera, Samsung seems happy to oblige. The Korean tech giant has fined-tuned this particular model to make it capable of snapping the perfect selfie, that will surely impress Facebook or Instagram friends.

The NX mini has a 3.0-nch 320 x 480 Flip up and Touch display and the screen can flip up to 180 degrees, so one doesn’t have to worry that the camera is targeting the background, instead of their face. Sammy also offers a 9mm wide-angle lens here and that means that group shoots will also be accurately taken.

Most importantly for selfie-takers, you should know that the Wink shot removes the hassle of having to actually physically press the button when you want to snap a photograph. This innovative system will enable users to just “wink” at the camera to alert it you are striking the perfect pose. Then all you have to do is wait two seconds for the snapping to happen.

Of course, it might seem like we’ve highlighted the selfie aspect too much, but actually the machine has been built exclusively for selfies. Samsung is marketing the NX mini as a slim and lightweight companion for hobbyists and professional photographers alike.

The camera’s 1-inch 20.5 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor is said to be capable of delivering high-quality images with an ISO range of 160 up to 128000. Furthermore, the NX mini is pretty fast with its 1/16000 second shutter speeds and 6fps continuous shot.

The NX mini is also fitted with Wi-Fi and NFC, so the camera can be easily paired with other devices in order to share photos. The device can be remotely controlled by virtue of a smartphone. On the fun side of things, the camera can even double as a Baby Monitor, sending alerts to the owner’s smartphone when it detects noise.

Samsung offers a choice between three lenses with the NX mini, including the NX-M 9 mm F3.5 ED wide-angle lens dedicated to shooting landscapes and selfies, the NX-M 9-27 mm F3.5-5.6 OIS micro-compact zoom designed for greater shooting options. Last but not least, the NX-M 17mm F1.8 OIS lens for a bokeh effect.

Because the new camera is a member of the NX family, it can also take advantage of an extra 15 NX lenses via a special NX-M Mount Adapter.

And because Samsung loves faux-leather and has pushed the design choice to most of its products, the new camera boasts some leather accents too. It is available in white, pink, mint green, brown and black, but so far, we have no info about pricing and availability.
