Samsung has some tricks up its sleeve, tablet-wise

It’s no secret that Samsung is working towards new tablets to be launched later this year, and we’ve already seen the Korean tech giant roll out the mid-range Galaxy Tab A in Russia.

We also heard some talks related to the fact that Samsung was looking to update its Galaxy Tab S AMOLED tablet family to the next level, but information about this is still scarce at the moment.

Anyway, today we have some information to share with you about the upcoming Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, which doesn't seem to be a model from the Tab S family but rather a pumped-up version of the Galaxy Tab 8.0 model that launched last year.

As the “Pro” moniker indicates, the tablet will bring more advanced specifications into the whole equation, and one of them has already been announced.

Samsung's next tablet will feature advanced iris recognition tech

Menlo, the California-based Stanford Research Institute (SRI), has just published a press release in which it announces the advent of iris biometric-embedded products for mobile B2B applications.

As it turns out, one of the products to take advantage of this technology is the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, which will apparently bundle a built-in IOM iris module.

IOM stands for “Iris on the Move,” meaning that the embedded system will be able to take your eye scan with just a glance.

While older iris recognition technology entailed users to remain still while their retina was being scanned, the new IOM technology doesn't require the person to stay completely still. IOM is currently used in airports, work stations, access control stations, and works in indoor and outdoor environments just as well.

The press release goes on to mention that Samsung’s new tablet will be introduced in the SIA New Product Showcase at ISC West 2015, which is scheduled to take place on April 15-17, 2015.

The implementation of Iris on the Move (IOM) technology into the upcoming Galaxy Tab 8.4 is a big indication that Samsung wants to sell the tablet on the enterprise market.

The Korean tech giant has been mulling over putting an iris scanner on the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4, but as we already know, this didn't happen. Maybe the Galaxy Note 5 will be the first phone to arrive with this kind of technology.
