If you haven’t had enough of Samsung tablets, we have a new one for you. Actually, the latest Sammy slate that surfaced online shows a device that looks more like a smartphone or a phablet, but comes with a 7-inch screen.

Chinese regulatory website TENAA has added a bunch of pictures showing an unknown SM-T2558 model, reports MobileGeeks. Right off the bat, one can notice the design is pretty similar to Samsung’s smartphones, except that the screen size pushes the boundaries and goes all the way to 7-inch.

We are provided with a bunch of specifications too, and judging by the spec sheet, we could compare this new tablet with the recently launched Galaxy Tab 4 7.0.

The new mode comes with an LCD panel with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. Under the hood, Sammy has granted a quad-core SoC, but details about it are currently unavailable. We could speculate there’s going to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 running the show, though.

The quad-core processor works in concert with a 1.5GB of RAM and at least 8GB of internal storage, which is expandable via microSD card. As expected, the tablet has dual cameras (2MP in front and 8MP on the back).

The slate is 8.95 mm / 0.35 inches thick, so it’s in the same boat with the Galaxy Tab 4 7.0. Strangely enough, the new tablet doesn't run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, but the older Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

A special feature of the tablet is LTE support and the device will surely allow users to place phone calls too.

This device seems to be an odd ball, but according to the filling, it seems to have been made for China Mobile. But even though the SM-T2558 will start selling under the carrier soon, it doesn't mean Samsung won’t make the device available in other markets too.

Who knows, maybe Samsung is trying to diversify its budget tablet portfolio with a product that actually sells for a budget price?

As you may already know, Samsung recently introduced the Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 tablet, a pretty average product with mid-range specifications.

The Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 comes with a 7-inch WXGA display (1280 x 800 pixels) and draws power from an 1.2 GHz quad-core processor fitted with 1.5GB of RAM, being backed up by a 16GB of internal storage.

Sammy also offers Wi-Fi 802 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0 and USB 2.0. However, the tablet doesn't support calling capabilities, a feature that seems characteristic of products launched on developing markets.
