Samsung is one of the biggest losers (so far) of 2015, smartphone sales wise

Just yesterday we shared with you a report which revealed that Samsung was one of the biggest smartphone market share losers in China and that competing companies like Xiaomi and Apple were catching up with the tech giant.

But Samsung’s downfall does not reflect only in Asia, but on a larger scale as well. A new statistic coming out from TrendForce shows us what appears to be the Korean tech giant’s road to perdition.

Samsung continues to ship the most smartphones

Samsung continues to remain the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer in 2015, with 26.6% hold over the market share, but compared to previous year, we’re seeing an acute decline.

In 2014, Samsung commanded over 28% of the global market, while in 2013 the company ruled with 32.5%.

The runner-up in this classification, you probably guessed it, is Apple. Interestingly enough, Cupertino market grasp has remained largely unchanged over the years. In 2013 the company presided over 16.6%, while in 2014 and 2015 it managed to snatch only 16.4%.

Completing the top three is Lenovo which, after the Motorola acquisition, jumped from 4.9% in 2013 to an all-high of 7.9% in 2014 and descended again to 7.4% in 2015.

Chinese device makers are dominating the top

But the biggest winners of the top are Chinese manufacturers. For example, Huawei made it into the 2015 top 5 with 6.6%. That’s a distinctive growth from the 4.4% it had in 2013 and the 5.9% it had in 2014.

Xiaomi is also ascending rapidly. The Chinese smartphone didn't even exist as a standalone brand (it was placed in the Others category) in the 2013 top, but made a flashy appearance in 2014 by grabbing the number 6 position with 5.2% market share. In 2015, things got even better, with Xiaomi rising to 6.5%.

Other Chinese manufacturers that weaseled their way into the top include TCL, Coolpad and ZTE. This leaves LG and Sony which continue to hold respectable portions of the market.
