Screens of mobile phones are becoming larger and larger, and the latest rumors on the matter suggest that we might see the first handsets to sport a screen of over 5-inches being launched on the market in the very near future.

Apparently, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics might be the company to launch it, and IFA 2011 in Berlin would be the place where the handset should make its debut, etomato reports (via).

At the said trade show, set to take place between 2-7 September, Samsung is expected to unveil its Galaxy Q smartphone to the world, which should pack a large 5.3-inch screen.

As the name suggests, the new mobile phone might run under Google's Android operating system, but other details on this are not known for the time being.

The same as the company's latest flagship Android-based mobile phone, the Galaxy S II, the said upcoming device should sport a Super AMOLED Plus display.

However, the touchscreen display would be one inch larger than what the dual-core behemoth offers at the moment.

If rumors pan out, the new device will make the line between tablet PCs and mobile phones even thinner than it already is.

We already had the chance to see smartphones with screens of up to 4.5-inches in size, but none larger than the 5-inch Dell Streak tablet PC that landed on shelves last year, which makes the upcoming handset from Samsung a unique device.

When Samsung Galaxy Q arrives on shelves, users will be able to enjoy both features that high-end smartphones offer today, as well as a series of capabilities specific to tablet PCs.

With nothing confirmed on this device for the time being, we'll take the info with a grain of salt, but we'll keep an eye out to learn additional details on it, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
