The new updates fix the potential read performance drop

Just now, Samsung has rolled out a new firmware and performance restoration utility developed for 840 EVO (EXT0CB6Q) and 840 EVO mSATA (EXT42B6Q) SSDs, which resolves a potential issue that caused the mentioned drives to drop read speeds.

This new update is targeted only at those users who have experienced a lower read performance and shouldn’t be applied on SSDs that don’t have this problem. Also, don’t try to update drives other than the aforementioned ones, as this will cause serious malfunctions.

As for the supported OSes, the setup can be opened on systems powered by both 32-bit and 64-bit variants of Microsoft’s Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 platforms, as well as by the 32-bit architecture of Windows XP.

Therefore, in order to restore the original performance and get rid of this bug, save and extract the downloadable archive, make sure the SSD has at least 10% free space, and run the available setup.

Now select the drive you want to improve, click the “Start” button, and allow the wizard to perform the installation. Bear in mind that during the upgrade you must not remove/disconnect the SSD or shutdown the computer as this will damage the device.

Last but not least, take into account that the upgrade process first applies the new firmware and then scans and calibrates the existing data. Depending on the amount of free space, the process can take even up to more than an hour, so be patient.

That being said, from the links below, follow the one that best describes your SSD, take into account all aforementioned aspects, apply the update, and enjoy your newly improved drive.
