The Korean producer announced that it has developed the world's largest TFT LCD panel, an 82-inch model that will be showcased in Hanover at the CeBIT 2005 exhibit.

The panel is made using Samsung's patented super patterned-ITO vertical alignment (S-PVA) technology, and features a contrast ratio of 1200:1, a brightness of 600 cd/m2 and a response times of 8ms.

The viewing angles are also excellent, as the image is still cristal clear even if the panel is looked at from almost an 180 degree angle.

The company stated that it also developed the first 40-inch TFT-LCD panel in August 2001, the first 46-inch panel in October 2002, the first 57-inch model in December 2003 and now the first 82-inch.

This TFT-LCD screen features excellent HD image quality and will be manufactured at the company's new seventh-generation (7G) plant, which will be run by S-LCD, a joint venture between Samsung and Sony. The technology used to produce this panel comprises glass sub-layers measuring 1,87m x 2,20m.

According to company statements, their technology are at least one year ahead of the competition, especially for this seventh generation production technology, which is used to develop 40-inch, 46-inch and 57-inch modules.

As a result, Samsung is on the verge of becoming the leader for a market growing so fast, where widescreen TVs and wall-mounted panels are more and more popular.

Unveiling the 82 inch panel also marks the successful collaboration between Samsung and Sony for producing S-LCDs. Mass production for this model will start in April.
