Mobile phone carrier AT&T is gearing up for the release of a new Samsung device, the Samsung i777, a handset that already received the necessary approvals from the FCC.

The smartphone that was spotted on the hallways of FCC included, among others capabilities, support for WCDMA / HSPA 850 / 1900 bands, which would clearly make it a great candidate for AT&T's network.

At the same time, the new mobile phone might arrive on shelves at other carriers on the North American continent, such as Bell, Rogers, or Telus.

It should also be mentioned that the new device comes with support for NFC (Near Field Communications), at least this is what the FCC filing unveiled.

Moreover, it seems that the new device sports the same dimensions as the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone, which led some to believe that it would be a version of this device.

Of course, the model number is different, but chances are that the NFC-enabled Galaxy S II smartphone was indeed the one to receive the blessing from the FCC now.

This would also mean that AT&T's flavor of the high-end smartphone is now closer to release, although specific info on when the actual launch might take place did not emerge for the time being.

Whether this is indeed the Samsung Attain that AT&T was rumored not too long ago to plan on bringing to the market in the near future, it remains to be seen.

One thing that is certain at the moment is that the smartphone will arrive on shelve with support for the wireless carrier's network, and that it willalso include 4G HSPA capabilities.

Galaxy S II is already listed on Samsung US' website, which also suggests that the release date might be near. If some of the latest rumors on the matter are to be believed, the launch would take place in August through all major wireless carriers in the country, AT&T included.
