After the successes recorded in cell phone and LCD display sectors, Samsung decided that it was time to get involved in the MP3 Player sector.
And since you cannot say MP3 Player without saying iPOD, it's obvious why Samsung's hottest wish is to dethrone Apple's product. The dead line the Koreans from Samsung have set for achieving this wonder is 2007..
Since Creative made recently a similar statement, it seems that in 2007 the race for number one will be pretty tight.
Once the objectives have been set, all that Samsung
has to do is to reveal the technological wonders that will make Apple drop iPOD.
During the CeBIT event, Samsung announced that in the first half of 2005 they intent to release 6 MP3 Player models. As a storage solution, the models will use flash memory, as well as hard-disks..
For example, Samsung's YH-J70 and YH-J50 models will use a hard-disk and YP-F1, YP-T8 and YP-D1 models will have flash memory. The sixth model, the YP-W3, has already been released at this year's CES.
The fact that already a Korean site
has published pictures and information about a new model from Samsung, clearly points out that the producer will comply with the fixed terms.
The model the Korean site makes reference to is YP-F1, a player that looks a lot like a cell phone, its dimensions being de 29x63x17.8mm and weighing 32g. The front panel of this model can be changed, a number of cases already being available in different colors. Very interesting is that the chosen LCD displays images only in black and white, an innovation Samsung seems to be very proud of.
YP-F1 supports MP3, WMA, ASF and Ogg formats and has FM tuner. The PC connectivity is ensured by the USB 2.0 port; other features are 3D Sound and alarm clock.
Three storage versions are available : 256MB, 512MB and 1GB.
All that remains to be seen is when will this model enter the market.
