14 DAY TRIAL // South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is reportedly gearing up for the launch of a new, cheap smartphone in India, so as to provide users with access to Reliance Industries Limited’s (RIL) 4G LTE network when it goes live in the country later this year.
No official info on the matter has been provided as of now, yet Times of India claims that sources close to the matter have unveiled that a smartphone priced at around Rs 5,500 ($100 / €77) would be released as part of the deal.
Furthermore, the news site notes that the new handset might be available for purchase with data packages that start at Rs 100. It will be accompanied by high-end smartphones, also expected to be released at minimum down-payments.
RIL’s LTE network should go live in Mumbai and Delhi by mid-2013, while expected to be officially launched at the end of the year.
