Before the end of this year, South Korean mobile phone makers Samsung and LG should bring to the market new handsets featuring flexible screens, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

Apparently, both companies will announce such smartphones in September, and both of them will pack these devices with 5-inch touchscreen displays.

The info reportedly comes from Korean-language DigitalTimes, which claims that sources from the panel industry with knowledge on the matter have confirmed this.

Moreover, the upcoming flexible smartphone from Samsung is expected to feature a three-sided display technology, DigiTimes reports.

As for LG, the handset vendor is supposed to release a smartphone which will pack a Quad HD flexible touchscreen display. Thus, the panel will be able to deliver a 510ppi pixel density. Apparently, LG will try to emphasize on the quality of its screens, the same as it did with the LG G3 only last month.

Both Samsung and LG have already released flexible-screen handsets (namely the Samsung Galaxy Round and the LG G Flex), but the market segment has yet to pick up Steam.

Other mobile phone makers out there might also consider launching similar smartphones, should these devices prove popular, yet none has unveiled details on the matter as of now.
