AT&T and Samsung have come live with the long-awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Samsung Infuse 4G last week. However, it appears that the update was pulled due to an issue that affects a small number of users.

Samsung and AT&T have yet to reveal more details on the specific issue that forced them to put a hold on the update.

Infuse 4G owners who try to manually download and install the update will be met with a short explicative message saying that: “Samsung and AT&T are aware there is an issue with the Infuse 4G update that affects a small number of users. We currently have put a hold on the update while we are developing a fix.”

Although the roll-out process has started on February 1, there’s no telling how many Infuse 4G owners have been able to download and install the Gingerbread update.

It appears that AT&T prematurely announced the availability of the Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread before Samsung even had the chance to load the files on its servers.

In the end it turned out that the update wasn’t thoroughly tested and Samsung missed “an issue” that now affects some of Infuse 4G owners who updated via Kies.

Hopefully, Samsung and AT&T will be quick on delivering a fix for this problem and Infuse 4G owners will be able to update their devices.

Aside from Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread, the update will bring the following changes:

Improved Copy and Paste functionality

- Redesigned Multi Touch Software Keyboard;
- Download manager for long running HTTP downloads;
- Improved power management and application control;
- Notification Shade: “Flight Mode” added (“Silent” removed);
- New Fonts options added include Choco Cooky, Cool Jazz, Rosemary;
- Keyboard Changes: Android Keyboard with Wider Spaced keys and Quick Keys at the top.

New Widgets

- The name of the content provider will be listed on the widget list along with the widget name. Previously only the widget name was provided.
- Traffic (Android) added to list of available widgets

Menu Changes/New Apps

- Downloads and Google Books added
- Promotional pre-load of Angry Birds removed.

We wait 8-month for this update and it's screwed up! Many users are now using ICS and good ole ATT and Samsung can't even get us an update that's been availble on other platforms for months. If this is how Samsung / ATT will handle updates in the future, I'll be looking for both a different phone and phone company.

a thousand monkeys pounding on a compiler could get updates out faster than AT&T or Samsung... Then again maybe they did but just forgot to beta test the code!

This has been the longest hold off after the initial release. * Samsung beside the fact that majority of their infuse serial doesn't existed in their database. I can't even register my phone. Also the Kies is a joke, it recognize the device as usual registered. WTF SAMSUNG!
