Samsung and AT&T have always been working well together, that's why the big blue North American carrier continuously releases new handsets made by the South Korean company. The latest Samsung phone presented by AT&T is the a137, an entry-level device that comes only two days after the
Samsung a237 was launched – another pretty basic handset.
The new Samsung a137 is a clamshell that looks quite similar to lots of other Samsungs previously released in the US. According to AT&T, the handset is built "for the voice-centric customer who wants text messaging, Instant Messaging and access to MEdia Net," hence users in need of more advanced features, like a photo camera or fast data transfer speeds, had better avoid this one.
On the other hand, those who don't want to spend too much on a phone will surely see Samsung's a137 as a good deal, since AT&T is offering it as a GoPhone, for only 39.99 USD.
For this amount of money, you will get: dual-band GSM connectivity (850 / 1900 MHz) with GPRS only, a 2 inch TFT internal display with 262K colors and 220 x 176 pixels, a 65K CSTN smaller external screen, Instant Messaging (Yahoo, Windows Live and AOL), email, Voice memo and Voice mail, SMS, EMS, MMS, T9 predictive text input, speakerphone, ringtones and answer tones. There is also an array of features that are embedded in about any new phone, including alarm clock, countdown timer, stopwatch, calendar, calculator, currency converter, memo book and so on.
The new and simple Samsung weighs only 2.86 ounces (81 grams) and, when not flipped, it measures 3.46 x 1.76 x 0.78 inches (88 x 45 x 19.8 millimeters). A 750 mAh battery is packed in the clamshell – enough to keep it going for up to 3 hours in talk-time mode or up to 10 days in stand-by mode.
