Rumors of Samsung switching sides turn out to be true

It’s no secret that Qualcomm is having some issues with its high-end Snapdragon 810 platform, which is supposed to power this spring’s major Android flagships.

One of them was supposed to be the Samsung Galaxy S6, but despite the LG G Flex 2 and Xiaomi Mi Note Pro being the first Snapdragon 810 phones to officially launch and Qualcomm saying it will deliver the chips on time, Sammy still feels it’s on shaky grounds.

We were previously told that the Korean tech giant would be abstaining from using the Snapdragon 810 and would turn to its Exynos garden instead to power all the Galaxy S6 variants (at least the initial batches).

Samsung's newest flagship will get the Exynos treatment

Well, now a report coming out of Bloomberg confirms this is indeed the case. The chip that will power the Galaxy S6 and its S6 Edge variant will probably be the Exynos 7 Octa (the same that lives inside the Note 4) but along with Sammy’s new LTE Cat.9 radio.

Samsung is scheduled to release the Galaxy S6 as soon as March and the company doesn't want to take any risks while its flagship is concerned, onto which it had attached hopes of getting back on track.

Sammy has been in a dry-spell lately, with Galaxy S5 sales amounting to less than expected and profits crumbling down.

Samsung is probably going to add a slightly modified Exynos 7 Octa chip inside the Galaxy S6, but for the time being we can’t tell you the exact specifics.

One thing’s sure though, the Exynos model is built on the superior 14nm processor, while the Qualcomm uses 20nm for the 810. However, this year Qualcomm is bound to finally move to 14nm with the Snapdragon 820, which we talked about yesterday.

Samsung also created an LTE Cat.9 radio of its own, so there’s no reason to believe an Exynos-powered Galaxy S6 won’t be a disruptive model.
