Wireless hard disk drives are pretty common at this point, but their makers still have a few tricks to pull, one of them being higher capacities than before.

Case in point, Samsung HDD (now a Seagate division) has formally launched the Samsung Wireless HDD, which happens to possess 1.5 TB storage space.

The company has made a point of specifying that it's enough to hold 750 films, and libraries made of countless photos and music files (375k MP3s, 425k photos).

Not a bad way to advertise something meant to act as a database for mobile devices.

The Samsung Wireless uses Wi-Fi, you see, to provide content to up to five smartphones/tablets at the same time. All the while, it stays small and unassumingly grey.

You can choose to connect the item to an Internet router or server as well, thus making it double as a wireless access point in addition to data hub. As for the battery, it should have enough power to last for up to 7 hours.

The Samsung Wireless portable HDD has a price of $179 / €179 and is supported by quite a few operating systems: Windows 8/7/Vista/XP SP2, and Mac OS X 10.6 or later, and Android 2.3 or higher. Basically, it should work with any mobile device capable of playing or viewing files over the air.
