Samsung might want to bestow fingerprint sensor on their wearables

The world of wearables is growing at a face pace and companies are trying their best to come up with innovative features that will leave customers drooling and craving to own one of these products.

Samsung is currently one of the most active players in the wearable market, spawning new products with the speed of light. And as we told you, the company has many more to come.

Earlier we told you Samsung plans to offer its upcoming Galaxy Tab S AMOLED tablet family bundled with the same fingerprint scanner technology, we saw the flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone arrive with (and the Tizen-powered Samsung Z for that matter).

Anyway, fingerprint scanning technology seems to have a sure future in today’s tech world. The Korean Herald reports the main company responsible for delivering fingerprint technology for Samsung has revealed there’s a real big chance we’re going to see wearables bundling this particular system, next year.

In all possibility, there’s no reason why next-gen Gear models couldn't come equipped with such a feat after all.

Synaptics CEO Rick Bergman told the press in Taipei, during a press event, that fingerprint scanning technology for wearables will become available for consumer products at some point next year. And according to him, implementing the system under a small curved display isn't exactly rocket science and is something really doable at this point.

While Bergman didn't really go into specific details concerning these purported wearables, we do know Synaptics is currently supplying Samsung Electronics with fingerprint scanning tech. So it makes sense to assume, Samsung will be the first to take advantage of the benefits of the new tech.

Sammy already has a wearable with a curved display, the Gear Fit, so the next iteration will take advantage of the tech.

Moving on, the official also disclosed the company is working to produce the first area-type fingerprint scanner, set to arrive in the second half of 2014. This could mean we might see the upcoming Galaxy Note 4 smartphone take advantage of this new module, instead of the swipe one.

Until now, the manufacturer has mostly worked with swipe-based scanners, and apart from Apple which takes advantage of an area-based sensor for the iPhone 5S, Synaptics has dominion (90% marketshare) over the fingerprint sensor market.

An earlier report claimed the next-gen Gear 3 model has been scheduled to arrive alongside the Galaxy Note 4 at IFA 2014 in September. So maybe the Gear 3 will be the first of Samsung’s wearable to come equipped with a fingerprint scanner technology.
