South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung announced officially on Sunday, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the release of its first smartphone running under the new bada OS, the Samsung Wave. According to the company, the new handset sports a great deal of technology advancements, including a Super AMOLED 3.3-inch display, Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, the WiFi 802.11n standard, or the TouchWiz 3.0 UI from the company.

At the same time, the handset vendor notes that the new device is meant to show Samsung's commitment to provide a smartphone for every lifestyle through the launch of its bada OS. Not only does the Super AMOLED touchscreen display (that boasts an 800 x 480 pixel resolution) included in Samsung Wave deliver a great user experience, but the TouchWiz 3.0 complements that with an intuitive and hugely customizable user interface.

The handset also comes with a 1GHz processor on board, as well as with a 5-megapixel photo snapper, aGPS, 2GB or 8GB of internal memory, and support for DivX, XviD, MP3 and WMV file types. According to the company, the display features mDNIe (mobile Digital Natural Image engine) technology, and users will also enjoy support for virtual 5.1 surround sound, as well as the HD video (720p) decoding and recording capabilities the handset includes.

The Samsung Wave truly demonstrates our commitment to deliver rich, connected and innovative smartphone experiences to everyone,” said JK Shin, president and head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung Wave sees our platform vision become a reality. For the first time, developers have the freedom to create applications across multiple platforms, for consumption on a huge range of devices. In the Wave, our developer partners can see the ocean of opportunity that is offered by the bada mobile platform and our device technology,” he added.

Moreover, the device also features support for email, IM and SMS services via the TouchWiz 3.0 UI, which makes it easy to access messages, to manage contacts, or to view calendar events. Not to mention that its push technology delivers social networking updates almost instantly. The new Samsung Wave, the first mobile phone in the world to run under Samsung's bada operating system, is expected to become available for purchase all around the world starting with April 2010.
