Samsung and Skyhook Wireless announced their partnership, that will enable the Korean company to integrate Skyhook's technology into its mobile phone devices. It seems that the first handset that will benefit from the partnership will be the S8500, which will provide users more accurate and faster location information.

Thanks to Skyhook's technology, owners of S8500 will be able to search and check-in with their friends, find nearby concerts and exhibits, or get directions to the destinations of their choice. Even though location is the central feature of services such as turn-by-turn navigation or local search, there's also a high number of social networking applications such as Twitter, Shazam and OpenTable, which incorporate the location function “to simplify user experience and to personalize content delivery.”

Samsung is committed to delivering the maximum benefits of smartphones for our customers and developer partners,” said Hyungmoon Noh, Vice President of R&D Planning Team at Samsung Electronics at Samsung. “Precise location is central to the mobile experience, and Skyhook’s Core Location will provide Samsung mobile devices with market-leading location capabilities.”

Skyhook is one of the leaders in geo-location systems, its technology managing hundreds of millions of location requests on more than 100 million handsets, netbooks and cameras everyday. Skyhook’s Core Location system is based on a combination of Wi-Fi, cellular and GPS readings, which seems to emits a single, accurate location quickly and in all environments. The Bada-powered Samsung S8500 handset is just the initial handset that will integrate this technology; more devices will probably follow in the new future.

Samsung creates innovative mobile platforms and user experiences,” said Michael Shean, Founder & SVP, Business Development, Skyhook Wireless. “Skyhook is thrilled to further enhance the Samsung smartphone experience with superior location accuracy and availability on Samsung bada and other platforms.”
