The CDMA/GSM handset will have an external digital clock.

I'm already pretty used to the new stuff Samsung comes on the market lately but when I saw their new mobile phone, the W579, on my feed reader I didn't knew what it was at first sight. The first thing that crossed my mind when noticing the external digital clock on its case was that this must be some kind of a geeky MP3 player. Then the title hit me right in the face: the Samsung W579 CDMA/GSM phone. Oh, so that's what it is!

The thing that makes this digital clock an innovation on the market is its positioning, the fact that it is placed on the left upper side of the external case, not in the center of it like in "normal" cell phones. Therefore, if you are the lazy type and don't want to open your clamshell every time you wanna take a look at the clock or if you just like the usability plus offered by an external clock, this just might be the thing that you've always wanted.

Along with the weird placed external clock this handset, which has already been approved by the FCC on October 26th 2006 so you can expect a launch in the near future, it comes with even more features in the package, features that would satisfy even the pickiest of the mobile phone users. The W579 sports a 262k colors 240x320 pixels TFT display, a 2 megapixel CMOS camera for you to take shots of the moments you never want to forget, 72 tone polyphony, an MP3 player for the multimedia fans, a TV-OUT function and support for Microsoft Office documents.

Oh, did I mention it works on GSM and CDMA networks? Not very impressive these days when most mobile phone manufacturers have already released GSM/CDMA handsets, but it's a good thing to know.

Until now, the Korean manufacturer hasn't released in the wild any info about its future price or release date, but when we'll find out, you'll be the first to know.
