Samsung has recently spilled the beans on the existence of a new mobile phone that should be released in the near future. Named Samsung SPH-W5000 (or simply Samsung W5000), the handset comes in a clamshell form factor and, judging by its specs, it is a mid to low-end device.

The W5000 has a fashionable design, sporting two displays: an internal 2.2 inch one with 176 x 220 pixels and an external one that measures only 1 inch and has 96 x 96 pixels (good for quickly viewing incoming calls and stuff like that). When it comes to connectivity, Samsung W5000 supports GSM networks (900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz), WCDMA and HSDPA (2100 MHz), hence it will allow users to enjoy high data transfer speeds (up to 3.6 Mbps).

Furthermore, the features of Samsung's new clamshell look like this: a 1.3 Megapixel camera with digital zoom and video recording, Music and Video player, Bluetooth, support for a Music On Demand function, Web capabilities and other basic features that you might expect to find in a phone that wants to be simple to use.

The handset weighs 96 grams and, when closed, it measure 100 x 50.5 x 13.5 millimeters, which is quite slim for a clamshell. This adds-up to the overall fancy aspect of the W5000 and will surely attract users that need small and good looking handsets.

There's no word yet about when, where and with what price tag the new W5000 will be released. However, on Samsung's official website, the clamshell appears together with the phones created for KTF, the second largest mobile operator from South Korea (about 14 million customers), hence the W5000 will most probably be launched via this carrier first. After that, the handset might also go to other Asian and European countries, since it works on the GSM networks used both in Asia and Europe.
