Mobile phone carrier T-Mobile USA has just slashed the price tag of one of the most appealing smartphones it launched on the market during the last year with Google's Android operating system on board, the Samsung Galaxy Vibrant. The mobile phone has seen a series of price cuts before, but the latest one seems to be the most appealing of them all, as the operator offers it for free upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement.

The new cost slashing comes only a few days after the wireless carrier made most of its Android-based devices available for under $100 on contract, except for the Galaxy Tab tablet PC.

Moreover, the new contract cost for the Vibrant seems even more tempting that before now that the wireless carrier started to deliver the Android 2.2 Froyo OS upgrade to its owners.

The Samsung Vibrant is currently the only Galaxy S smartphone in the United States to receive the software update, though others might also get upgraded in the near future.

“The Samsung Vibrant, a Galaxy S Phone, is a sleek Android-powered smartphone with a stunning 4” Super AMOLED screen and 1 GHz processor that makes everything you experience more beautiful,” the wireless carrier notes on it website.

“With preloaded entertainment applications and exclusive content, it provides you all in one entertainment right at your fingertips,” the company continues.

The specifications list of this handset would include support for 3G connectivity, a large 4-inch touchscreen display, a fast 1GHz Hummingbird application processor, or a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back.

The smartphone should soon receive a successor, the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, which was already announced officially, and which might land on shelves at the wireless carrier in about a months from now, with support for the carrier's HSPA+ network.

The upcoming release of this device might be the main reason for which the existing Vibrant got a price cut. Those interested in purchasing the Galaxy S smartphone on contract from T-Mobile should head over to the operator's website here.
