Although launching a couple of new entry-level, low-cost compact digital cameras the same day one of your most important competitors has a major DSLR launch is not exactly a grand idea, at least as far as we're concerned, that's not stopped Samsung from taking exactly this path, as the company has just introduced the PL20 and ES80 point-and-shoot cameras, targeting mostly people on a budget.
The first camera we'll talk about, namely the PL20, features a 14-megapixel sensor, a 27mm wide angle and a 5x optical zoom, plus HD movie recording and a Li-ion rechargeable battery.
Moreover, the device packs a DIS (Digital Image Stabilization) system, as well as a host of additional functions, including here Smart Auto 2.0, Smart Filter, HD Movie Recording, Face Detection, Beauty Shot, DIS(Digital Image Stabilization), Photo Help Guide.
The second camera, namely the ES80, is built around an 1/2.3″ (Approx. 7.81mm) CCD, 12 Mega Pixel sensor, accompanied by a Samsung lens with 5x optical zoom (f = 4.9 ~ 24.5mm, 35mm film equivalent : 27~135 mm).
The camera can record 720p video and also packs many of the Samsung special functions we've mentioned earlier.

As mentioned right from the start, both the PL20 and ES80 are quite affordable, the former selling for around $119.99 starting with March, while the latter will go on sale in April, for roughly 99 US dollars.
