Samsung, one of the world's leading vendors of consumer electronics and computer products, has recently announced the debut of its STORY Station Plus, a new line-up of 3.5-inch external hard drives, designed to boast a fast external serial ATA (eSATA) interface and up to 2TB of storage space. The new line-up offers a choice for PC users looking for a back-up solution that provides a combination of high-capacity storage and high-performance interface.

“Samsung new line of high-density solutions with the eSATA interface give users the speed they need for demanding tasks like photo and video editing, plus safely storing multimedia content libraries,” said H.S. Lee, vice president, Storage Marketing, Samsung Electronics. “The 2TB density STORY Station Plus drive can store the data equivalent of 500,000 MP3 music files, 560,000 digital photo images, or 880 hours of high resolution video.”

According to Samsung, the new drive provides users with a choice for a traditional USB 2.0 interface or an eSATA connection. The difference between the two is that the first offers a transfer speed of up to 480Mbps, while eSATA delivers support for up to 3.0Gbps. In addition, the design of the new STORY Station Plus enables users to save energy, as the drive's low power design offers a standby power of just 0.1 watts. The unit will be available in capacities ranging from 1TB to 2TB and includes an aluminum enclosure offering protection and effective heat dissipation, as well as a chic design.

Moreover, the STORY Station Plus comes with Samsung's Auto backup feature for data preservation, the SecretZone software for encryption of personal data, and the SafetyKey application for password protection. The unit also comes with a three-year limited warranty, and according to Samsung, the 2TB version will be available for an MSRP of US$299.
