After having been refused by SanDisk, Samsung has returned to some of its internal affairs and has decided to finally unveil details about its upcoming netbook computer system, which will go by the name of NC10. As you might have been expecting, Samsung also decided to go for the proven technology, which is why its first model isn't all that different from all the other released products, on this increasingly dynamic market of netbooks.
The first thing you will probably notice about the new Samsung release is that its name is slightly similar to Toshiba's recently unveiled NB100 netbook. The NC10 is built on Intel's Atom-supporting chipset and delivers the computing power of the 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor. This also implies that its graphics capability will be handled by Intel's integrated solution.
As the name suggests, the NC10 has been equipped with a 10.2-inch WSVGA display, capable of outputting a maximum resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. It will be equipped with either an 80GB or a 160GB hard drive and it offers the same WiFi b/g wireless support as all the other netbooks on the market. Other features include 2.0 Bluetooth, a 1.3MP webcamera and a 6-cell battery, which the company claims that it can provide an impressive 8 hours of use. The netbook will be available in Europe starting October, although the company hasn't disclosed any pricing details.
"Through our extensive R&D network, we have gained a true insight into consumers’ frustrations with these products, such as small keyboards and short battery life, which has been very valuable and has allowed us to develop a product we feel fits our customers needs," Executive Vice President HS Kim, said. "Small and light, with the power and functionality for mobile working and web browsing, the NC10 delivers a true online experience from the palm of your hand."
The 10-inch Samsung netbook weighs 1.33kg, packed with a 6-cell battery, and will come with a Windows XP Home Edition operating system.
